How We Work

We here at OGK Studios understand that making a video or doing a photo shoot can seem complicated and crazy. How long will this take? How much will that be? What's a best boy? Fear not, for we have led clients through these creative waters many a time and emerged with an excellent product on the other side.
First of all, send us an email.
Now, here's a quick rundown on how we work.

The 4 Phases of Video Production

We work to understand your product or service so we can figure out the best way to convey to the viewing audience why they’ll want it. The first step is to for us to meet with you and your team so we can get to know each other and talk about your big vision. We'll guide you through our customized Creative Brief, which will serve as our roadmap throughout production.

We’ll spend some time determining where you need to play this piece to get it out in front of the public's eyes--TV, your website, on social media, at a trade show, on a billboard, etc. It's important that we know as much about this ahead of time so that we can quote accurately, since things like music, crew, and talent can cost different amounts if we're going to TV or web. Our team can support you with TV/web media strategy and social content, and partner with their PR and media buyers to make sure you get the best ROI.

After that, we’ll break off and spend some time developing and writing up some concepts. We put a few of them together into what we call "treatments," which are usually short presentations with text and pictures that explain the concept, why we know it’ll be great, and a quote with around how much it'll cost. Usually we'll charge a bit of money for this Creative Workshop so that we're not coming up with ideas "on spec," or, "for free." When we move forward to the pre-production phase, that money gets absorbed into the rest of the quote. Once you've decided on which concept you'd like to go for, we go ahead and write the script for the video. Then we're ready to move forward into step number two: Pre-Production.

When the script and the concept are all agreed on and approved, we start to spin up everything we need to make it happen. This is where we do a ton of work making sure this project is the best thing we can possibly make. This includes crewing up with everyone we need for the project, drawing from our large network of excellent filmmakers.

All projects are a little bit different in nature, but did you know that it can take up to 30 crew members on set and behind the scenes to pull off even a 30-second commercial spot? We'll scout the best places to shoot the story, and cast the people that will represent your brand. We recommend hiring awesome professional models and actors as much as possible. It's not nearly as expensive as you might think it is, and hiring pros means that they know how to look on camera and deliver a performance that your audience will enjoy watching.

We also build out a full schedule for you that will help you keep track of what part of the process we're in from here until final delivery. Once we've gathered all our resources, set a date, and made sure there'll be cookies on set, we're good to go into Production.

We shoot, using the appropriate type of professional gear that fits the budget and the creative. If you'd like to come along for this part, we'll have a chair and some craft services ready for you. Once we call a wrap, we're onto phase four.

We take the footage and audio, and meticulously create the film using every tool at our disposal, from visual effects to original music composition or licensing, to color grading. We build in several check-ins with you so you can see how the edit is progressing along and provide your feedback along the way.

Once we're agreed that we've made the best film for your brand that we possibly can, we'll make sure you can get it out into the world via the methods we discussed back in our Creative Workshop.

How Long Does It Take?

That's a great question. By nature, each film production is different, but we like to have between 8-10 weeks from the start of Phase 1 to the end of Phase 4 in order to get it done right.

How Much Does It Cost?

Not as much as you might think. Or, more than you were expecting. It's a lot like buying a car. You can get a reliable compact for scooting around town for $, a cool luxury sedan for $$, and a roar-y, shiny sports car for $$$. It all depends on your need, and we scale up and down to try our best to meet that need. We determine the cost in a bid estimate near the end of Phase 1 after we've met with you and come up with some solid concepts.
